Om Sri Hanumate Namah

Bajrang Baan

An invocation to Shri Hanuman, transliteration with meaning.

Opening

nishchaya prema pratiti te
binaya kare sanaman
tehi ke karaja sakala shubha
siddha karen hanuman

Those who recite these verses with love and unwavering faith have all their good desires fulfilled by Hanuman.

The verses

jaya hanumanta santa hitakari
suni lijai prabhu araja hamari
jana ke kaja bilamba na kijai
atura dauri maha sukha dijai

Glory to Hanuman, benefactor of saints. Please hear our prayer. Do not delay the work of your devotees; come running and grant us great peace.

jaise kudi sindu wahi para
surasa badana paithi vistara
age ja-i lankini roka
marehu lata ga-i suraloka

Come as you did when you leapt across the ocean, expanded through the mouth of Surasa who tried to block your path, and on reaching Lanka sent the demoness Lankini to the heavens with a single kick.

jaya vibhishana ko sukha dinha
sita nirakhi parama pada linha
baga ujari sindhu mahan bora
ati atura yamakatura tora

In Lanka you gladdened Vibhishana, and by Sita's blessing you attained the supreme place. You laid waste the Ashoka grove and cast the trees into the ocean, breaking the very knife of Yama.

akshay kumar ko mari sanhara
luma lapeti lanka ko jara
laha samana lanka jari gai
jaya jaya dhuni surapura manha bhai

You slew Akshay Kumar and burnt Lanka with your tail. Lanka burned like molten wax, and the heavens rang with cries of glory to Hanuman.

aba bilamba kehi karana swami
kripa karahu ura antarayami
jaya jaya lakhana prana ke data
atura ho-i dukha karahu nipata

Why do you delay now, my Lord? You know what lies in the hearts of your devotees, so have mercy on me. Glory to you who restored Lakshman's life; come quickly and dispel my sorrow.

jai giridhara jai jai sukha sagara
sura samuha samarata bhata nagara
om hanu hanu hanu hanumanta hatile
bairihin maru vajra ke kile

Hail, holder of the mountain, ocean of happiness, wisest of gods and most skilful. O spirit indomitable, strike the enemies as though nailing them with a thunderbolt.

gada vajra lai bairihin maro
maharaja prabhu dasa ubaro
omkara hunkara mahavira dhavau
vajra gada hanu vilamba na lavo

O great king, save your servant by striking the enemies with your mace like a thunderbolt. Sounding the roar of Om, challenge them and crush them, and do not delay.

om hrim hrim hrim hanumanta kapisa
om hun hun hun hanu ari ura shisha
satya hohu hari shapata payake
ramaduta dharu maru dhayake

O Hanuman, Lord of the monkeys, I invoke you with Om hrim hrim hrim and Om hum hum hum. Strike the enemy in the chest and head. I swear by the name of Hari that all I say is true. O messenger of Ram, rush to attack at once.

jaya jaya jaya hanumanta agadha
dukha pavata jana kehi aparadha
puja japa tapa nema achara
nahin janata haun dasa tumhara

Glory to you, O fathomless Hanuman. For what offence is your devotee suffering so? This servant of yours knows nothing of worship, sacred mantras, penance, or the discipline of ritual and virtue.

bana upavana maga giri griha mahin
tumhare bala ham darapata nahin
panya paraun kara jori manavaun
yahi avasara aba kehi gohravaun

Relying on your strength I fear nothing anywhere, in forest, garden, mountain, road or home. I fall at your feet and entreat you with folded hands. To whom else shall I call at this hour?

jaya anjani kumara balavanta
shankara suvana bira hanumanta
badana karala kala kula ghalaka
rama sahaya sada pratipalaka

Hail Hanuman, all-powerful son of Anjani and brave son of Shiva. Fierce of form, destroyer of even the minions of Death, ever at Ram's side and protector of all.

bhuta preta pisacha nisachara
agni baitala kala mari mara
inhen maru tohi shapatha rama ki
rakhu natha maryada nama ki

Slay every evil spirit: ghosts, phantoms, goblins, demons, fire, vampires and calamities. Destroy them all in the name of Lord Ram, upholding the sanctity of the holy name.

janakasuta hari dasa kahavo
taki shapata bilamba na lavo
jaya jaya jaya dhuni hota akasha
sumirata hota dusaha dukha nasha

You are called the servant of Ram and Mother Sita; in their name, make no delay. The sky resounds with your glories, whose mere remembrance dispels unbearable sorrow.

charana sharana kara jori manavaun
yahi avasara aba kehi goharavaun
uthu uthu chalu tohi rama doha-i
panya paraun kara jori mana-i

I take refuge at your feet and plead with you; to whom else shall I call in this hour of urgent need? Rise, rise, come along, by the oath of Ram. I fall at your feet with folded hands.

om chan chan chan chan chapala chalanta
om hanu hanu hanu hanu hanumanta
om han han hanka deta kapi chanchal
om sam sam sahami parane khaladal

I implore you, O nimble-footed Hanuman, with the call of Om cham cham cham cham and Om hanu hanu hanu hanu. Strike swiftly like lightning. When the monkeys roar, the host of evil-doers flees in terror.

apane jana ko turata ubaro
sumirata hoya ananda hamaro
yahi bajaranga bana jehi mare
tahi kaho phir kauna ubare

Save your devotee at once; remembering you fills me with joy. Who can save the one struck by this Bajrang Baan, the arrow as mighty as a thunderbolt?

pata karai bajaranga bana ki
hanumata raksha karain prana ki
yaha bajaranga bana jo japai
tehi te bhuta preta saba kanpai

Those who recite this Bajrang Baan are protected for life by Hanuman. Even ghosts and evil spirits tremble before the one who chants it.

dhupa dey aru japai hamesha
take tana nahin rahai kalesha

Those who offer incense and chant his name always remain free from every bodily torment.

Closing

prema pratitihi kapi bhajai
sada dharai ura dhyan
tehi ke karaja sakala shubha
siddha karain hanuman

Those who worship Hanuman with faith, devotion and love, and always hold him in their hearts, have all their good desires fulfilled by Hanuman.
